The role of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council

The role of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council became more apparent with the release of the B.E. 2528 Act on regulations for administration of Bangkok, which requires that both the governor of Bangkok and members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council are to be directly elected by the public. Both are given 4-year terms and their relationship is meant to foster the balance of power between on another. The Governor of Bangkok is elected by the citizens who have rights in Bangkok. The members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council are chosen from the citizens who have the rights to the election in each elective ward. One councilor is allocated for approximately 100,000 citizens per one elective ward. Another elective ward will be added, if a number of no less than 50,000 citizens remains. Nowadays there are 61 councilors in the Bangkok Metropolitan Council. From 50 districts of the election, there are members of the Democrats 45 persons, Thai Party 15 persons and 1 independent person.
