The power and duties of Bangkok Metropolitan Council members.

The power and duties of Bangkok Metropolitan Council members are, in brief, as follow:
1. Power to propose or endorse directives to be enforced as laws of Bangkok.
2. Power to consider the endorsing draft of annual budget expenses and additional expense budgets.
3. Power in approving or endorsing affairs that are required by law to be endorsed by or reported to the council. These include paid service provision to the private sector, state agencies, state enterprises or local state bodies, conducts outside the Bangkok area, joint conducts with other individuals by means of company establishment or holding of shares in a company, and reporting the reception of the fiscal year that has been inspected by the Office of the Auditor General.
4. Power in approving directives of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
5. Power to decide for dismissal of a council member due to commitment of actions against the integrity of the position.
6. Collaborate with the administrative branch in resolving problems of the public.
7. Power to regulate the workings of the administrative branch. The council may implement this power with four measures, including:
7.1 Pose questions to the governor of Bangkok on issues related to work under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
7.2 Propose motion to have the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration conduct an action under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
7.3 A general debate may be opened by having no less than 2 in 5 of all council members voicing their intention to propose a motion for a general debate, to have the Bangkok governor explain facts on matters or express his views on problems related to the administration of Bangkok.
7.4 Power to be a member of a Bangkok Metropolitan Council committee. The task of following up and regulating the works of the administrative branch is considered and important role of council members. Bangkok Metropolitan Council committees have the power to engage in affairs concerning, investigations (on) or study matters concerning issues under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and then reporting to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council.
The council’s committees are classified into two types; Standing committees and Ad Hoc committees.
The Standing committees are comprised of committee members selected from all members of the council. Each committee possesses at least 5 members but no more than 9 members.
